Rise Up For Rob #RiseUpForRob

SIDEARM Sports is proud to present the Burly for 30 Challenge!

As we move closer to the end of another amazingly successful year, we'd like to take a chance to give something back to the community that we're so proud and fortunate to be a part of.

Rise Up For Rob Over the past two years, for the month of November, all of the employees of SIDEARM Sports and our nearly 700 partners have lent our faces to raise nearly $25,000 for a cause. In 2011, we raised money for cancer research. In 2012, we honored the life of Rex Fleming, son of Abilene Christian University's Associate Director of Athletics for Media Relations, Lance Fleming.

In 2013, we've chosen a new cause to throw our support [and facial hair] behind. SIDEARM Sports is a Syracuse, NY based company, and it's no secret that our very first venture into collegiate athletics was in support of Syracuse University's suathletics.com. In many ways, it's been Syracuse that has afforded us with the opportunity to be successful in this market. Last month, a long time former member of the Syracuse staff, Rob Edson, passed away unexpectedly. To say that Rob was respected and well known throughout the industry would be a vast understatement. Rob was endlessly positive and forward-thinking, a truly brilliant leader, husband and father.

Rob left Syracuse in 2011 to become the Athletic Director of Onondaga Community College in part so that he could have more time to focus on his family - Sue [longtime SU Assistant Athletics Director/Communications], Thomas, 14, and Tracey, 11. Rob continued his success at OCC, garnering accolades after only a short time in office.

When we came together this year to decide what cause we would be backing this month, it was unanimous that we support our long-term friend and SIDEARM family member. We want to honor his life and dedication to the industry. Rob spent endless hours in the high-stress, heavy-workload environment, and he truly made the industry better for it. This year, 100% of funds raised will go into a college scholarship fund for his children, Tracey and Thomas.
